The Birka Cross is one of the most famous pieces from the gravesites of the
Swedish island of Birka, once a prosperous Norse trading centre.
Dating from the beginning of the 10th Century, it is one of the first tangible signs of the conversion of the Viking nations. |

My version of it is roughly twice as large as the delicate original, more
boldly modeled in simple filigree, but reproducing the naif interpretation of
the Christian image by a craftsman who was, one suspects, more familiar with the
depiction of Odin in such a pose.
